Tucker House Volunteer Opportunities

 

Get involved in this exciting facility that offers programs and opportunities for ecological sustainability.  Volunteer positions are available for volunteers in Rockland and the Ottawa area in a variety of different roles.

On-going Oppoertunities involve Working Groups (teams of volunteers) who get together to plan specific events or programs for Tucker House Renewal Centre. Working Groups may meet once per month and communicate between meetings by e-mail and on the on-line Forum; roles on the working group can include set positions (such as Secretary) or Working Group Member (involvement without a set position). There are also opportunities for people who can't make a long-term commitment on a Working Group, but just want to help out occasionally in the garden or at the camp. We currently have the following volunteer opportunities available:


Organic Garden Volunteer (Seasonal Opportunity)

Volunteers are needed to help in the organic garden anytime between May and October. This opportunity involves occasional volunteering in the garden over the course of the season and does not involve an on-going Working Group or monthly meetings. Summer Camp Volunteer (Seasonal Opportunity)

Participate as a volunteer in one of our summer camps at Tucker House. This opporunity requires a short-term committment for the camp program and does not involve an on-going Working Group or monthly meetings. All volunteers who work with children must obtain a Police Record Check (available at no cost with a letter from the organization). Seventh Generation Community Projects (Working Group)

Help plan the National Capital Green Pages (a directory of environmental organizations and businesses in the National Capital region) and organize educational workshops for adults in the Ottawa area (current workshops focus on Solar Hot Water).
Specific roles available on the Working Group include : Secretary and Outreach Coordinator. Support is also needed from Working Group Members for contacting businesses for the Green Pages and helping to organize workshops at assist at various community events. This opportunity involves regular meetings with the Working Group.

Green Gala Fundraiser (Working Group)

Help to plan the fall Green Gala at Tucker House to raise funds for our educational activities.
Specific roles available on the Working Group include: Secretary, OUtreach Coordinator, Silent Auction Coordinator. Support is also needed fromWorking Group Members to develop a list of possible businesses to approach for donations and to edit and improve the fundraising materials. This opportunity involves regular meetings with the Working Group.

Green Design (Working Group)

Help make Tucker House more sustainable by assisting with our plans for green design and energy efficiency. Participants in the working group can assist with specific research topics such as energy efficiency, geothermal, solar, wind, water conservation, etc. We will bring the information together to develop a long-term plan for change!
Specific roles available on the Working Group include : Support is needed fromWorking Group Members to research different renewable energy options and help make decisions about the plan. This opportunity involves bi-monthly meetings with the Working Group.

Operations Support

Help keep Tucker House in order!  Volunteers are needed to provide hands-on support at Tucker House including occasional outdoor and indoor repairs around the property. This opporunity requires a short-term committment and does not involve an on-going Working Group or monthly meetings.
